October 2019 Lower Salt River Graffiti Removal Project
Water Users & Phon D Sutton
1,352 square feet of graffiti removed from THe Lower Salt River at Water Users & Phon D Sutton Recreation Areas
In 2019, REI employees and members voted for Natural Restorations to receive grant funding to expand our Graffiti Removal Program with our Dedicated Restoration Team. In addition to REI funding, we also used a portion of a private donation for this project.
In October, we contracted 3 Veterans on our Dedicated Restoration Team and got to work along the Lower Salt River at Water Users Recreation Area and Phon D Sutton. Sadly, this is not the first time we have removed graffiti from both of these recreation areas on the Lower Salt River. You can view our past project HERE.
Veterans working with us on this project benefited from our program not only through paid contract work but also through spending time in nature with other veterans. It was extremely rewarding both mentally and physically for the veterans to accomplish this project and make a lasting impact on the state.
Max Gorden from Arizona Family came out to the project site, click HERE to view his news story.

Our hope is that by removing the graffiti as seen in the pictures below, fewer people will make the mistake of thinking it is okay to tag the rocks and boulders. We believe everyone should be able to experience nature without graffiti.
Please contact the non-emergency # for the area if you see anyone vandalizing public lands & please contact us when you see graffiti or trash in outdoor recreation & wilderness areas.
