On Saturday, September 30th, 2023, we teamed up with Arizona Adventure Group (AAG) for our annual cleanup in addition to a volunteer appreciation lunch by AAG. 40 volunteers, including 5 youth volunteers, helped us remove 1,040 pounds of trash & invasive cockleburs from Butcher Jones Recreation Area & Saguaro Lake on the Tonto National Forest.
Volunteers on foot picked up trash from the beach, picnic area, parking areas, the trail and everywhere in between, divers from Salty Scuba Squad picked up trash underwater, & volunteers with kayaks & SUPs picked up trash on the water & in areas volunteers on foot could not reach, including trash trapped in the reeds. Thank you to Teri from Riverbound Sports for bringing out a couple SUPs for volunteers to borrow & for picking up A LOT of micro trash! Volunteers also helped us remove invasive cockleburs.

As volunteers brought their trash bags back to the dumpster, they were treated to lunch from Arizona Adventure Group. A Volunteer Appreciation Lunch with hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, & cookies was the perfect way to wrap up a fun morning making a positive impact.
