02/03/18 Santa Cruz River Cleanup
Camino Del Cerro to Sunset Road - Tucson, Arizona
Natural Restorations hosted our first Tucson cleanup along the Santa Cruz River from Camino Del Cerro to Sunset Road, on Saturday, February 3, 2018. 120 volunteers, including 69 youth volunteers, helped us make a significant impact on the Santa Cruz River yesterday!
Volunteers helped us remove 78 tires, 2 shopping carts, and we filled a 40 yard dumpster with 2.82 tons of trash (5,640 pounds).
This event included interactive river education displays from Arizona Project Wet and the Sonoran Institute. Thank you to all of the educators who came out to talk to volunteers about the importance of the Living River. To learn more about the Lower Santa Cruz River and to view a copy of the Sonoran Institute's Living River Report that charts wetland conditions of the Lower Santa Cruz River, visit the Sonoran Institute's website by clicking HERE.
We would like to thank the following organizations for their support of this event: American Rivers, Arizona Project WET, CopperPoint Insurance Companies, Garland Signs & Specialties, LeBaron & Carroll Insurance, Marisa Rice and everyone at Pima County Regional Flood Control District, Robert Coonrod, the Sonoran Institute, Salt River Project, and Tucson Clean and Beautiful.
